Mustache and Tuxedo Cake - "Welcome Little Man"

Made this FUN cake to celebrate the upcoming grandchild of some dear friends of ours. Such a fun theme! My husband was all "why is there a mustache on a BABY cake?!!" LOL – he was not impressed. The theme of course, was "Welcome Little Man." I thought it was adorable! Top-tier is two layers of chocolate, bottom is three layers of vanilla, cream cheese filling with buttercream icing and marshmallow fondant accents. The hat is made of rice crispy treat, covered with buttercream and marshmallow fondant.
I really liked the white on white polka dots!

I also made 24 chocolate and vanilla cupcakes, each with a little blue bow tie. They added the mustaches at the baby shower.

Boise State Jersey Birthday Cake

Made this for a friend of mine, for someone at her work. We had a small miscommunication on the name spelling, ha ha, but thankfully  I was able to fix it before the tailgate event last week (but not before these photos). The cake is 2 layers of vanilla with chocolate créme filling and buttercream icing, with marshmallow fondant letters and numbers. Happy Birthday to P. Delgadillo! 😉

Zebra Stripes and Baby Sandal Baby Shower Cake

Fun little baby shower cake! I found a template online for the sandals but my printer was out of ink, so I ended up drawing it. Think they turned out pretty cute, anyway. :-)
The cake is vanilla with vanilla creme filling and buttercream icing and marshmallow fondant.

Antique Rose Birthday Cake

This cake was for a 40th birthday. It was supposed to be somewhat Victorian in style, not quite sure how well that came off (looks slightly saloon girl-ish to me ha ha), though I do love how it came out. Cake is chocolate vanilla swirl with vanilla creme filling, buttercream icing and marshmallow fondant.

Marines Dress Blues Stars and Stripes Cake

Made this cake for a young man who has enlisted and is leaving soon to train as a U.S. Marine. A small token for someone who's headed off to serve our country, right?
The cake is French vanilla with vanilla creme filling and buttercream icing. Accents are marshmallow fondant.

Leopard Cheerleader 50th Class Reunion Cake

I made this cake for my mom, and her high school reunion, which she was brave enough to host at her own house. The cake is yellow, with vanilla cream filling and buttercream icing. I hand formed the leopard from marshmallow fondant. I thought it turned out really cute and fun and hopefully everyone liked it.

Taylor Swift 22 Birthday Cake

So my oldest son always has to do something fun and kind of "different " for his birthday theme. :-) This year was no different, and he had a Taylor Swift theme, specifically her song 22. I made a cake to coordinate.
It's white cake, with vanilla creme filling and buttercream icing.

Mountain - Hiking Wedding Cake

I made this cake for a friend from work, and sadly, it never made it to the venue. At least, it never made it in this condition. I had not planned on delivering the cake, but was asked to a day or 2 before, and I didn't want to say no. I TOTALLY SHOULD HAVE SAID NO! Instead, I attempted to do it by myself, there was construction, a bump, tears, and enough said. They were able to salvage enough to serve their guests, but no one got to see the cake, except me. :-(
The cake was vanilla with buttercream icing. The bottom two tiers had blackberry filling, the top had huckleberry.  The figures were hand formed from marshmallow fondant. The trees were rice krispy treat and buttercream, and the boulders were rice krispy treat with marshmallow fondant. Below are some before pics of the trees and boulders.

I waited to finish the tops of the trees until I placed them on the cake, so I could pick them up.

I really thought the finished cake turned out nicely. Still sad about the cake disaster!

Wedding Cake with Burlap and Gerber Daisies

can't tell you how happy I was to make this cake, how happy I am that these two people found each other and have begun their life together. The bride, like a sister to me and dear to my heart, gave me few instructions, just burlap, gerber daisies and she pinned a few pics on Pinterest. Love her confidence that I'd make something she'd love.

If you're interested in knowing how this cake came together, see the photos below. Keep in mind this is how I do it, but there are a few ways to put a big cake together.

1. Bottom tier is 3 14" layers (vanilla and chocolate marble cake). Filling is vanilla creme. Below, it is stacked, filled and crumb coated with buttercream icing.

2. Big cakes are heavy and need dowels. I used 4 wooden dowels cut to size for support and 1 for the center, which helps keep the tiers from sliding.

3. Next I added a 10" cardboard cake round, for the next tier which is, coincidentally 2 layers of 10" marble cake.

4. Some people put their tiers together and then set them on the cake. I prefer to assemble them on the cake: bottom layer, icing "dam," filling, then next layer, and a crumb coating of buttercream.

5. I chose to use shake straws as support, 4 of them cut to size. They are strong enough to hold the 6" tier. Then I added a 6" cardboard cake round.

6. Add the 6" layer and follow the same steps as #4 above.

7. Next step was to frost the whole thing with buttercream.

8. Then I just smoothed it( I use the viva towel method, google it if you're curious) and decorated as below. I used the cornelli lace and dot techniques, burlap ribbon and live gerber daisies (complements of the bride). VOILA!

Dr Seuss-Inspired Cat in a Graduation Hat Cake

Unique hat for a unique graduate! She requested a funky, pink cake, with a cat theme,ha ha, and this was my interpretation. 😉
Marbled vanilla and chocolate cake with vanilla creme filling, buttercream icing and marshmallow fondant accents.
