I used 6 inch cakes, filled 3/4 full with batter so they would "dome." Then I froze them before carving, to make that easier. It's also easier to frost a carved cake when it's frozen, fewer messy crumbs.
Its vanilla funfetti cake with buttercream frosting inside and marshmallow fondant outside. Feet weren't in the original, but if you have to have orange fondant for a beak, might as well throw on some feet! ; )
