I made this cake at the request of a couple I know who have a good friend who apparently had a problem with chipmunks in his lawn . . . there was some joke about it and they wanted to surprise him with a fun cake to reminisce, so naturally I obliged them. These little chipmunks and acorns are hand formed from homemade marshmallow fondant. The "dirt" is crushed Oreo cookies, and the "grass" is piped buttercream icing. The cake itself is French vanilla with chocolate cream cheese filling.

Skiiing and Golfing Mountain Retirement Cake
They finally did it! Chuck and Linda are FREE AT LAST! Congrats, Mom and Dad, so happy for you!!! Time to ski and golf and dance whenever your little hearts desire! You deserve it!!!!! This BIG retirement cake is chocolate for the top 2 tiers, and yellow for the bottom tier. Cream cheese filling, buttercream icing, and hand formed marshmallow fondant accents. I even found a photo of Mom and Dad in their ski gear, and made these two characters to match. :-)
And the HAPPY retired couple! |
Simple Birthday Cake, Buttercream Rosettes
Just a very simple little cake for a celebration with friends. The birthday girl ended up being ill and missing her party, but we partied on without her. :-) This was vanilla cake with vanilla custard filling and buttercream icing.
Designer Barbie Birthday Cake, Purple and Pink with Black Accents
This is my sweet little nieces 6th birthday cake. It's the 4th year in a row that she's requested a Barbie cake, lol. I designed this dress by combining looks from a few different cakes, as well as images of Barbie clothing. It's definitely a one of a kind, lol. The dress is chocolate cake with a midriff of rice crispy treat, covered with buttercream icing and marshmallow fondant. The bottom tier is vanilla with vanilla crème filling. Lots of marshmallow fondant all over this cake, but no tylose needed, fortunately-the kids LOVE to eat that marshmallow fondant!
Couldn't resist adding a photo of my sweet niece with her birthday cake. ;-) |
Wine Glass Birthday Cake
Simple little birthday cake for my very sweet and awesome friend, Valerie. Vanilla cake, vanilla crème filling and buttercream icing. Good times!
Pink and Gold Ruffled Birthday Cake
Pink and gold 1st birthday cake for my friend Dawn's sweet grandbaby. This look is easy, but very time consuming. Each ruffle/petal is hand cut and shaped, then dried and placed. Unfortunately, in the essence of time, I had to add tylose powder (cellulose gum) to the marshmallow fondant so that it would dry in time. Without it, the fondant is pretty yummy. With it, not so yummy. But it's a fun look! Vanilla cake with vanilla crème filling and buttercream icing.
Baby Butt Baby Shower Cake
Baby shower cake for a colleague and his wife. The team really wanted them to have a "baby butt" cake, so I obliged, lol. Chocolate cake with vanilla crème filling and marshmallow fondant accents. The "butt" and feet are formed from rice crispy treat and marshmallow fondant.
PS-I'm never quite sure how I feel about these baby butt cakes, lol. I mean, where IS the other half of that baby? Just don't go there . . . ;-)
Boise Braves 18th Birthday Cake
18th Birthday cake for a colleague's son. Chocolate with vanilla crème filling, buttercream icing and marshmallow fondant accents. The only request was that it be done in Boise High Braves colors of red and black.
Wynken, Blynken and Nod Nursery Rhyme Baby Shower Cake
Who remembers the Wynken, Blynken and Nod nursery rhyme? Anybody? Nah, me either, lol, I had to Google it! But it was a SUPER cute theme for the baby shower thrown for my cousin Molly in November 2015. This is the cake I made for her, (with an audience, no less, ha ha. Actually, they weren't too bad) The cake is chocolate/vanilla marble, with vanilla crème filling, buttercream icing and marshmallow fondant accents (all the figures, wooden shoe-boat and stars are hand formed/cut mmf). Most of my cakes are an ALL day endeavor, and this one was no different. It was, however, a labor of love as I couldn't be happier for Molly and Mike and their new baby Clara!

And below is the actual nursery rhyme, for your reading and perhaps nostalgic pleasure . . . :)
Wynken, Blynken, and Nod one night
Sailed off in a wooden shoe —Sailed on a river of crystal light,
Into a sea of dew.
"Where are you going, and what do you wish?"
The old moon asked the three.
"We have come to fish for the herring fish
That live in this beautiful sea;
Nets of silver and gold have we!"
Said Wynken, Blynken, and Nod.
The old moon laughed and sang a song,
As they rocked in the wooden shoe,
And the wind that sped them all night long
Ruffled the waves of dew.
The little stars were the herring fish
That lived in that beautiful sea —
"Now cast your nets wherever you wish —
Never afraid are we";
So cried the stars to the fishermen three:
Wynken, Blynken, and Nod.
All night long their nets they threw
To the stars in the twinkling foam —
Then down from the skies came the wooden shoe,
Bringing the fishermen home;
'Twas all so pretty a sail
it seemed
As if it could not be,
And some folks thought 'twas a dream they'd dreamed
Of sailing that beautiful sea —
But I shall name you the fishermen three:
Wynken, Blynken, and Nod.
Wynken and Blynken are two little eyes,
And Nod is a little head,
And the wooden shoe that sailed the skies
Is a wee one's trundle-bed.
So shut your eyes while mother sings
Of wonderful sights that be,
And you shall see the beautiful things
As you rock in the misty sea,
Where the old shoe rocked the fishermen three:
Wynken, Blynken, and Nod.

Teal and Purple Birthday Cake with Gold Scrolling and Fondant Flowers
This was my niece's birthday cake, from October. It is chocolate, OF COURSE, lol. Teal and purple are her favorite colors, and she wanted gold also. . .buttercream icing and marshmallow fondant accents.
Boise State Blue Turf Football Cake
An EXTRA big cake, for an EXTRA special nephew. :) This cake was from September . . It's a two layer 11"x15" vanilla cake with vanilla crème filling, made for my nephew Luke's 9th birthday. The colors are a bit off in the photo . . .but you get the gist, right? I have a new camera, so I'm hoping I start to get better photos for the blog.
